About

*AGN* Dedicated to all of my teachers.

August 16, 2011.

I decided today to begin a blog that is my attempt to understand the Bhagavad Gita.

I can't remember the exact date, but it was around 5 years ago that I chanced upon a television program in India where a prominent teacher of the Gita was conducting a discourse in English, stripped of all the usual pomp and ceremonial activities that usually accompany a discourse. As I watched that program, I realized that there is something here that is attracting me, but I could not quite explain why. I tried to watch that program as often as possible during my 3 month stay in India.

When I returned to the US to continue my work, those Gita discourses stuck in my head. I began to buy commentaries on the Gita from several authors, and eventually came across a teacher whose audio discourses resonated with me. Now I am looking at the end of the 18th chapter (the last chapter) of the Gita, and having gone through it over the course of 2 years, still feel a need to understand it deeply.

This blog is my attempt to restart my journey of the Gita, beginning with the first verse of chapter 1. But this time, I want to go deeper and understand each verse to the best of my ability. I will keep the language as simple as possible, and provide examples that I and most people can relate to.

I stumbled upon this simple translation of the Gita recently, your explanations are shorn of any technical jargon and mumbo jumbo and is very easy for the layperson to up understand. I am reading it concurrently with the books written by Chinmayandaji and other masters. It is indeed a great help.
Thankyou!

You mention above that the audio discourses of a teacher on the Gita resonated with you. If you would, would you please say who that teacher is. Thanks for your blog posts. They are very helpful

I just happened to visit this place, and let me tell you I totally love the way you explain it. Wow! Simple and straight forward. Connecting the knowledge to modern life situations, is mind blowing. I'm not able to stop reading after a few verses. Why don't you publish this as a book and put up for sale? that way this awesomeness can reach more people. God bless :)

My most respected Shri. Marballiji
I am depositing my namaskarams to you again and again every day . It is nothing short of the hand of providence itself that has directed me to this incomparable blog. My only prayer is that, the same hand of Providence should take me through the entire Bhagavad gita through this wonderful blog. One day, I was very perturbed because the shloka-18 of chapter-4 did not give clarity to my mind even though I tried all my usual sources. I could not sleep and going over various possible explanations in my mind. While I was browsing various sites, bhagavaan directed me here. I felt the same way Arjuna must have felt at the end of chapter-18. The explanation was just perfect. I cannot thank you enough. Since then I have gotten myself glued to your presentation through your blog. As you have yourself mentioned, there have been and will be millions of avatharas. I feel, whoever you are, who has sent these explanations for a confused person like me; cannot be any shorter than an avathaara himself.
Once again my humble namaskarams and prayers that I complete learning this leg of the Prasthaana-Triyam completely without any obstacles. Thank you. Mrs. Vijaya Dandapani
